Missing Pices is an Final Degree project about Space Pirates who meet a lost princess. It is a project with a very fun and cartoon style. Ther are very extravagant and colorful lightings. I wanted to collaborate with them because it was a very different style from Genethics. In addition, they were our neighbors in Lab 4 and I wanted to be part of their project.
Police Cars
These shots take place the police chase our protagonists. I wanted to play with the police cars, so I picked up this sequence. The main challenge was to animate the lights and copy it from one car to another quickly. What I did was work with standins. I had a base car with the lights on. I exported these lights as a standin and assigned a standin to each police car. I set an offset between each standin. It was also easier to apply feedback because if I changed the base rig, the changes were made to all the cars.
Bad Guy Sequence (Rejected)
This shot was very complicated because I had to do the masterlighting but we didn't have a clear idea of what we wanted. To make the spotlights on the ceiling I used a mash distribute combined with standins. I make diferent lighting versions for the Team. However, as is typical in the world of animation. The work I did was rejected. But I was able to learn a lot.
Color test
My final propose
Another thing I tried, but didn't turn out very well is create the rims with an arnold standard surface shader. Since it was a very cartoon and dramatic Lighting I created an emission shader using the info of the sampler node. It didn't work well, but I'd like to work on it in the future.
